Il voudrait bien vous aider, mais…

I am a Seattle-based book editor, translator, writer, and reviewer. From August 2015 to March 2017 I was the Children’s & Young Adult Editor at Shelf Awareness, a national e-newsletter and reviews journal celebrating books and independent bookstores. Since then I have been editing books, translating French picture books, writing, and, once in a blue moon, playing the ukulele. My most recent article is in The Comics Journal: “Lions and Tigers and Buffalo: Students Make Comics in Myanmar” (June 30, 2020).

I am an enthusiastic member of the Cephalopod Appreciation Society; the American Library Association (ALA and its youth-oriented ALSC); SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators); and USBBY (The United States Board on Books for Young Readers).

In 2020 and 2021, I served on a 2022 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) nominating committee, through USBBY.

Are you a publisher or agent in need of help?

I am always looking for book editing and translating opportunities.

My second job out of Carleton College (after waiting tables at a Colorado dude ranch) was at a small educational children’s book publisher in Minneapolis. I’ve worked in publishing ever since, primarily in editorial but also in marketing and PR. My specialty is children’s and young adult books, but, like a desert saguaro, I’ve branched out dramatically over time. I can do big-picture consulting and then follow through to the very last accidentally italicized period. I can also write collar-grabbing press materials and hypnotic marketing copy. (You are getting very sleepy.)

Are you an author and/or illustrator?

I’ve been lucky enough to work with individual authors on books at every stage from developmental editing to final proofreading.

What are my rates?

My rates are not fixed because no two projects are the same. Let’s discuss.
