I am a Seattle-based writer, editor, marketing and PR consultant, and book reviewer. From August 2015 to March 2017 I was the Children’s & Young Adult Editor at Shelf Awareness, a national e-newsletter and reviews journal celebrating books and independent bookstores. Since then I have been editing picture books, writing, and playing the ukulele.
I am a longstanding member of the Cephalopod Appreciation Society.
Are you a publisher or agent in need of help?
My second job out of Carleton College (after waiting tables at a Colorado dude ranch) was at a small educational children’s book publisher in Minneapolis. I’ve worked in publishing ever since, primarily in editorial but also in marketing and PR. My specialty is children’s and young adult books, but, like a desert saguaro, I’ve branched out dramatically over time. I can do big-picture consulting and then follow through to the very last accidentally italicized period. I can also write collar-grabbing press materials and hypnotic marketing copy. (You are getting very sleepy.)
Are you an author and/or illustrator?
I’ve been lucky enough to work with individual authors on books at every stage from developmental editing to final proofreading. When the book is ready to go, I can often help with whatever else needs to happen on its road to publication. I know how hard it is to finish a book…that’s one of the many reasons I’d so much rather help you with yours than work on my own.
What are my rates?
My rates are not fixed because no two projects are the same. Let’s discuss.
